The K.I.T Binder is a three-ring binder that the third graders in my class will use everyday to help develop their organizational skills and promote responsibility. Third grade is big transitional year, where the students will become more independent and really need a good organizational foundation to build upon. It contains labeled folders and pockets. This binder is a way of maintaining effective communication between home and school. Hopefully this binder will help to eliminate lost notes and disorganized backpacks.
Inside your K.I.T. Binder, you will find these components:
This section is located in from the left binder pocket. It will contain important notes that need immediate attention. Please also use this pocket to send Mr. Kamenick notes that need immediate attention, such as a note regarding a doctor’s appointment, early dismissal, questions/ comments/ concerns or anything else you can think of.
Money and Important Note Pocket
This is a small, zipped pouch in the front of the binder. It can be used for lunch money, field trip money, book orders, or any other money that may need to be turned in at school. The students are allowed to keep an extra pencil and a small eraser in this section so they will always have something to complete their homework.
The students will keep their daily agendas in their K.I.T. Binders. Please look at your child’s agenda and sign it daily. This will help you know what your child did in class that day and if they have any homework. This will also help me verify that you saw it. Agendas will be checked daily. It is the responsibility of the student to get the agenda signed.
Each binder will contain a blue and red plastic folder. These have already been labeled with the following categories:
Take Home Notes: These are any notes from the office or any mail that needs to go home.
Homework: These papers should be completed and returned to school.
Keep Home: These papers that have already been graded and should be kept at home.
Return to school: This pocket is for any papers or homework that needs to be returned to school.
The back, right binder pocket is for “other” things that may not quite fit in one of the existing categories.
